Capturing this moment in time in Windsor’s local music history!

Uma Sessions is a project which aims to highlight and capture the music scene in Windsor by showcasing local musicians and artists who make Windsor a stop on their tour!

This project was started by Kamryn Cusumano and launched in early 2023. With the help of director Elliott Hale, we have been funded by Bell Fibe to produce 6 episodes of Uma Sessions!

Episode 1: Datsunn

This episode features Datsunn, a Windsor-based prolific content creator. Fans may be familiar with his work on Twitch, Instagram, and collaborations with major brands like Native Instruments and Roland, just to name a few. But no matter how you arrive, Datsunn's entrancing blend of classic hip-hop, soul and R&B will entice you to stick around. Citing influences which run the gamut from J Dilla to 9th Wonder, Datsunn has perfected an ultra smooth brand of engrossing eclecticism which is as fresh as it is familiar.

Episode 2: Bitters

This episode features Bitters, an alternative folk band from Windsor, Ontario. Fusing influences of 60s and 70s folk with indie rock sensibilities, Bitters leans into dense harmonies and layered acoustic texture.

Episode 3: Bilal Nasser

This episode features Bilal Nasser, an award winning classical guitar player and composer. Bilal rejects the academic convention of classical music as he blends classical techniques with genres of post-rock and shoegaze to create a new sound he calls "post-classical." If anyone is able to make classical "cool" it's Bilal.

Episode 4: Willowbrook

This episode features Willowbrook, a prolific folk singer-songwriter from Leamington, Ontario. Willowbrook has made a name for themselves in Windsor and globally hitting high streaming numbers on music platforms and TikTok which have gained them a world-wide audience.

Episode 5: Apollo Suns

This episode features Apollo Suns, a 9-piece instrumental collective from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The band fuses the influence of jazz, rock and psychedelic music, to create their own unique sounds with the dancefloor in mind. They were awarded “Instrumental Artist of the Year” at Western Canadian Music Awards in both 2018/2020.

Bishop Boys

The Bishop Boys are a singer/songwriter duo from Windsor, Ontario. Their thoughtful, introspective lyrics create narratives on themes of love, heartbreak, and carefree summer nights. Like their lyrics, their distinctive sound exudes a feeling of warmth, reminiscent of groups like Chicago and The Band.
Bilal Nasser

Bilal Nasser is an award winning classic guitar player and composer. Bilal rejects the academic convention of classical music as he blends classical technique with genres of post-rock and shoegaze to create a new sound he calls “post-classical.” If anyone is able to make classical “cool” it’s Bilal. You’re not going to want to miss this.
Bitters

Bitters is an alternative folk band from Windsor, Ontario. Fusing influences of 60s and 70s folk with indie rock sensibilities, the band leans into dense harmonies and layered acoustic texture. Bitters is comprised of River Bourque, Jeremy Burke, Cavelle Doucet-lefebvre, Dylan Iannicello, Graham Venney, and Tim Maitland.

Willowbrook

Willowbrook is a rising star in Windsor. They’re only 20 years old but this indie folk singer-songwriter has made a name for themselves in the local music scene and online! TikTok videos have helped Willowbrook reach a global audience with their single “Sweet Diana” being covered by fans and having their songs featured as the choice wedding songs for many walking down the aisle. They are just hitting their stride and we are thrilled to have Willowbrook kick off our series.
